History
In the heart of Americus, GA, Hurricane Stadium at Georgia Southwestern State has gone through many updates over the years while also giving off the vibe of a local park. The Hurricanes of GSW play in the Peach Belt Conference and have since joining the NCAA in 2006. In recent years the stadium has added updated lighting and a clubhouse across the street from the stadium.
Atmosphere
The fans at GSW are a mix of families, students, and alumni. Admission is free, and the seating is just concrete steps behind home plate. I definitely recommend bringing a lawn chair or at least some padding to sit, as it isn't the most comfortable way to watch a baseball game. The fans do stay engaged, though, and there's a nice playlist between innings.
Concessions
There is no concession stand at Hurricane Stadium, but there are local restaurants and fast food stops not far from campus for you to grab something and bring to the game.
Access
There is no easy way to get to Americus. It's about 40 minutes from I-75 to the stadium and about an hour and 45 minutes from I-85. There are a few hotels in Americus, but there are much more closer to the interstate if you don't mind a drive after the game.
Final Thoughts
Georgia Southwestern State is old school baseball. There's no bells and whistles, but any day at a baseball game is better than a day somewhere else.
