History
Opening with the establishment of the team in 1956, Bob Riesener Stadium is located in what used to be a farm and cotton field. In recent years, the team has added a new locker room facility, a new backstop, and an updated scoreboard. The most recent update was the addition of turf to the bullpen, home plate, and backstop areas in 2023. Seating includes both chairbacks and bleacher seating, though all are included at the same general admission price.
Atmosphere
Montevallo is, to put it simply, a fun place to come watch a game. On the outside edge of campus, fans in the stands at any game seem to be a mix of local fans, students, and families of active players. There's no flashy mid-inning games or announcements, just music and a relaxed atmosphere. There's also seating in the outfield that students seem to use as a student section in the warmer months.
Concessions
There is one concession stand in the concourse, serving usual ballpark favorites and Coke products like most universities in the South. These are all reasonably priced, which is a nice break from some other parks.
Access
Montevallo is located just south of Birmingham along I-65, making it easy accessible by car. Birmingham is full of hotels and local restaurants, and I'd recommend staying there since there's not much in Montevallo proper. There is a parking lot directly next to the stadium, and parking is free but may fill up on a big game weekend.
Final Thoughts
It is clear that Montevallo is dedicated to improving its facilities, and in the era of the transfer portal, good facilities are vital to get good talent to come and stay. The coaching staff is clearly eager to move into a winning era at Montevallo, and bring a culture of excellence back to Riesener Stadium.
