Texas State Bobcats vs. App State Mountaineers - Sun Belt Conference Tournament Game 3

It was an early start for Texas State and App State as they started game 3 of the Sun Belt Conference tournament at 9am CT. Both teams were able to hit their stride early, and while it wasn't a 10+ run day for either team like we saw day 1, the bats stayed hot as Texas State took the 6-5 win over App State.

For the Mountaineers, Colton Denton and Kameron Miller pushed runs across in the first third of the game; Denton on a ground out with the bases loaded, and Miller on a double to the deepest part of the park. The only homer of the game came from App State's Jalen Seward, a 413 foot knock into left, and he also drove in a run in the bottom of the 8th. App State threatened in the 9th after a double from Ethan Puig drove in their 5th and final run of the game.

For Texas State, Clayton Namken and Manny Salas were both able to push runs across in the 3rd for the Bobcats. Blake Beheler gave Texas State the lead in the 6th on a 2-run double to center-left, with Rashawn Galloway driving him in on a single. Brady Boles kept the doubles going for the Bobcats, driving in a run in the 8th.

"I thought there was kind of that third, fourth, fifth inning I thought maybe we had them on the ropes a little bit and just kind of let them off the hook there and kind of let them go a little bit father than we wanted them to." App State head coach Kermit Smith said postgame.

Texas State Steven Trout postgame talked about their outlook when it comes to being on the bubble for postseason play: "The goal is just to go 1-0. I know that's very cliché but for us, you start trying to time it up or trying to design it up too much; you gotta go win games, so for us our goal... Easiest path to the NCAA Regionals is to win the tournament and we know that, so for us we're gonna treat each game like we've got to go 1-0, each game is our World Series so we've gotta go win that one and then we'll wake up the next day and try to figure it out from a pitching staff perspective. [...] We don't want to leave it up to anyone hands for [an at large bid]. We know if we go out there and win a bunch of baseball games, there's a good chance we're playing next week."

Appalachian State will play the loser of Game 4 between Louisiana and Coastal Carolina at 9am CT on Thursday in an elimination game. Texas State will play the winner of Game 4 at 4pm CT on Thursday.
