Troy Takes Game One in Super Regional

Super Regional weekend is special, but for the two teams in the Troy Super, it was a little bit more special. Trojans vs Trojans and both teams' first trip to Super Regionals, and fans at Riddle-Pace Field in Troy, AL were in for a treat. With additional seating added both in and out of the stadium, the "biggest event in the history of Troy" as Troy's mayor put it was sure to bring some fireworks. Troy would meet the moment, ultimately defeating Little Rock 12-2.

Little Rock would strike first, as a Blake Simpson single in the top of the first would drive in the first run of the game Troy would strike back in a big way, as a Drew Nelson triple followed by back-to-back homers by Aaron Piasecki and Josh Pyne in the second would drive in five runs for the home team. Little Rock would get one back in the third, again off the bat of Simpson, and would narrow the Troy lead to three. Troy would quickly get the run back, though, as Nelson would once again drive in a run to make the score 6-2 Troy after a third.

Troy would force Little Rock to make a call to the bullpen in the fourth as Little Rock ace Brannon Westmoreland would be pulled after six Troy runs and a runner on second. Both offenses would cool off then, as neither team would push a run across in the fourth and fifth innings, but Troy would once again score in the sixth on a Jabe Boroff two-run homer to make the score 8-2.

Troy would bring in their last runs of the game in moment-meeting style, as Boroff would hit his second grand slam of the postseason after hitting one in the Gainesville regional. This would be the last runs scored of the game, and Troy would ultimately take the 12-2 lead.

After the game, Little Rock Head Coach Chris Curry highlighted how much the environment at Troy was a good thing for mid-major programs. "I think that's awesome. I think that speaks to where college baseball is today [...] to see a lot of fans coming to a Super Regional between two mid-majors, we appreciate them supporting college baseball."

Troy coach Skylar Meade also highlighted the atmosphere, especially after the Boroff grand slam. "I actually saw the video of Doubles Alley in complete pandemonium and felt like the party of all parties when his ball landed out there. So pretty cool, but all that being said, work is not done."

Game two of the Troy Super Regional is Saturday, June 6, with first pitch set for 2pm CT.
