Who Are You? The Journey 16 Teams Took to Super Regionals

With there being so many schools in the Super Regionals in 2026 who aren't traditional in the tournament, here's a high level view of the sixteen teams and their road to Super Regionals


Morgantown Super Regional: West Virginia vs. Cal Poly


West Virginia

The Mountaineers came into the Field of 64 and the number 16 seed after becoming the Big 12 Tournament runner-ups behind Kansas. They would make the Field of 16 coming out of the loser's bracket in a 6-5 10-inning win over Kentucky. Head coach Steve Sabins has led the program since 2025 and was an assistant at West Virginia starting in 2016.


Cal Poly

The Mustangs entered the field as the winners of the Big West Conference Tournament. They went undefeated as the 3-seed in the Los Angeles Regional that was hosted by top-seed overall UCLA. Head coach Larry Lee has been at Cal Poly for 24 seasons, and Cal Poly was where he received his Master's.


Troy Super Regional: Troy vs. Little Rock

Troy

Troy came into the tournament with an at-large bid, one of five teams from the Sun Belt Conference in the Field of 64. They came out of the loser's bracket in the Gainesville Regional, forcing host Florida into a Game 7 and defeating the Gators 10-2. Head coach Skylar Meade has been coach of the Trojans since 2022.


Little Rock

Little Rock made the tournament as the auto qualifier of the Ohio Valley Conference. The 4-seeded Trojans would go undefeated in the Hattiesburg Regional, ultimately defeating Jax State in the final. Chris Curry is in his 12th season as head coach.


Chapel Hill Super Regional: North Carolina vs. USC

North Carolina

The Tar Heels hosted the Chapel Hill Regional as the number 5 national seed due to their performance in the ACC. They went undefeated as the hosts, defeating East Carolina to advance to Super Regionals. Scott Forbes has been head coach of North Carolina since 2021.


USC

The Trojans made it to the College Station Regional after coming in runner-up in the Big Ten Tournament. They came out of the loser's bracket, forcing a game seven with host Texas A&M before defeating them 7-1. Head coach Andy Stankiewicz has lead the program since 2023.


Auburn Super Regional: Auburn vs. Ole Miss

Auburn

Auburn came into the Regionals as the number four national seed after an impressive performance in the SEC. Defeated 4-seed Milwaukee in game seven to advance to Super Regionals. Butch Thompson is in his 11th season with the Tigers.


Ole Miss

Ole Miss received one of the at-large bids out of the SEC to make the tournament, where they played in the Lincoln Regional. They went undefeated in Lincoln, ultimately defeating Arizona State in extra innings to advance. Mike Bianco is in his 26th season as head of the program.


Lawrence Super Regional: Kansas vs. Oklahoma

Kansas

Entered the Field of 64 as the 15th national seed after winning the Big 12 Conference Tournament. They came directly through the winner's bracket, defeating Arkansas in the final 13-10. Dan Fitzgerald is in his 4th year coaching the Jayhawks.


Oklahoma

The Sooners received an at large bid out of the SEC and were in the Atlanta Regional. They defeated host Georgia Tech to make it to the Supers, defeating them in extra innings after forcing a game seven out of the loser's bracket. Head coach Skip Johnson has led the Sooners since 2018 after one season as an assistant.


Tuscaloosa Super Regional: Alabama vs. St. John's

Alabama

The Crimson Tide went undefeated in the Tuscaloosa super regional after receiving one of the SEC's at large bids. They defeated 2-seed Oklahoma State in the final, avoiding a game seven. Rob Vaughn is in his third season as head coach of the Crimson Tide.


St. John's

St. John's came into the Tallahassee Regional as the 4-seed after winning the Big East. They would go undefeated in Tallahassee, defeating host Florida State 5-4 in the final. Mike Hampton has been head coach since 2020, but first joined the Red Storm staff as an assistant in 2002.


Austin Super Regional: Texas vs. Oregon

Texas

The Longhorns hosted the Austin Regional as an at-large team out of the SEC. They would not lose a game, defeating UC Santa Barbara in the final. Jim Schlossnagle is in his second year as head of the Longhorn program.


Oregon

Oregon received an at-large bid, hosting a regional in Eugene. The Ducks would go undefeated, beating former Pac-12 rival Oregon State in the final. Their head coach, in his seventh season with the program, is Mark Wasikowski.


Athens Super Regional: Georgia vs. Mississippi State

Georgia

Georgia hosted the Athens Regional as the third ranked team nationally after winning the SEC. They would go undefeated, scoring 30 runs in three games to advance to Supers. Wes Johnson is in his third year as head coach of the Bulldogs.


Mississippi State

Another at-large bid out of the SEC, Mississippi State made easy work of their regional. Outscoring their opponent 39-11, the Bulldogs would defeat Louisiana to officially advance. Head coach Brian O'Conner is in his first season.
