Alexander Field - Purdue Baseball
History
Opened in 2013, Alexander Field sits on the edge of Purdue’s West Lafayette, IN campus. Part of a larger athletic complex that also houses the soccer and softball fields, Alexander Field honestly feels newer than it is. Named after Purdue alumni, Alexander Field easily brings you close to the action, regardless of where you’re sitting. Alexander Field has seen the Boilermakers to one NCAA tournament appearance in 2018, though the program has made the tournament 3 times; Lambert Field, the old Purdue field, hosted a regional in 2012, the last season Purdue played there.
Atmosphere
With both reserved chairbacks and general admission bleachers, fans easily fill the stands at Alexander Field. They stay engaged and few leave early, though that could be due to the late inning magic the Boilermakers seemed to have in the 2026 season. With even the bleachers having backs, it is one of the parks that even with a bad back it’s easy to sit in the GA seats. There are some games in the mid-innings, but they’re spaced out enough that it doesn’t feel like too much.
Concessions
Concession prices are on par with what you’d expect at a Power 4 program, with a nice selection of hot dogs, popcorn, nachos, and Coke products. They do have a nice selection of beer and seltzer, with a few more options than most programs seem to have. There is also a small merch stand along the third base line, with jerseys, t-shirts, and hats; the one downside is that the baseball specific merch is limited. Purdue, if you’re reading this, can we PLEASE have a Purdue Pete baseball themed logo hat?
Access
Purdue is relatively easy to get to regardless of which direction you’re coming from, and it’s not far from the interstate exit in West Lafayette. Alexander Field is on the outside of campus, which is nice if you’re there on graduation weekend like I was; considerably less traffic this way. All parking at the field is free, with a paved lot and a grass lot option just outside the gates. The paved lot seemed to all be ‘park at your own risk’, so something to keep in mind.
Final Thoughts
Purdue fans were extremely welcoming in my time in West Lafayette, and Alexander Field feels like a new stadium. With comfortable seating, free parking, and affordable admission, Purdue’s an easy stop in if you happen to be passing through on your way to Chicago or Indianapolis.
