Charles H. Braun Stadium - University of Evansville
History
Holding it's first official game in March 2020, German American Bank Field at Charles H. Braun Stadium is the current home of Evansville Aces baseball. The program is known for causing a bit of havoc; you may remember their upset victory over Virginia in the 2006 Charlottesville regional. With the 2006, 2014, and 2024 teams honored along the outfield wall, it is clear the Aces are proud of the history of the program.
Atmosphere
Braun Stadium is on the north edge of Evanville's campus, and is right next to the university's softball field; the two share a parking lot. This makes it easy to catch two games in a day, which may fans seemed to take advantage of the day I was there. The Evansville faithful come out regardless of weather, cheering on the Aces on an unseasonably cool day in May when I was there. While they may not be extremely engaged, they clearly care about rooting their team on.
Concessions
The concession stand sells everything you've come to expect at a baseball game, including hot dogs, popcorn, and candy. They also have some beer options, though late in the season, they seemed to have understandably cut back a bit. The concession stand is also shared with the softball field, so they may be sold out of things if softball has already played that day. Prices are on par with other smaller programs, though, so no huge surprises there.
Access
Evansville is relatively easy to get to, and there are a few different hotels in the area for anyone coming out of town. The big thing to be aware of is the parking situation; it is a small lot, and if softball is playing, it can easily fill up. Get there a little early if you can, but there's also some street parking close by if the lot is full when you arrive.
Final Thoughts
Evansville has old school charm about it, and I'm always going to give bonus points to schools where it's easy to catch two games in a day; it feels like what college sports are supposed to be.
