History
Located in Carrollton, GA, the University of West Georgia is one of the latest programs to make the jump from D2 to D1 athletics, having made the leap in 2024. Cole Field has been the home of Wolves baseball for 50 years, and it feels like a classic ballpark. It is a fully dirt field, which in 2026, is becoming more and more of an exception for most programs. With a rich history of success in their time in D2, including 7 NCAA tournament trips and one College World Series bid, the Wolves try to continue that success in the Atlantic Sun Conference.
Atmosphere
Cole Field is all general admission, with bleachers for fans watching the Wolves. Some of the bleachers to have backs, at least, for a little bit of extra comfort. Admission is free, making this an easy option if you're just trying to pop in for a game rather than plan a full visit. There is limited shade, though the sun sets behind the 3rd baseline if you're trying to get into the shade a little earlier. There was some student support, though most fans seem to be parents of the players.
Concessions
Cole Field has one concession stand, and it serves your classic ballpark fare. Prices are pretty affordable, though, especially compared to some of the other D1 schools in Georgia. Outside of what's available at the field, Carrollton doesn't have very many food options, so plan to grab food as you head into town if you'd rather not eat at the field.
Access
Parking is free, though it can be a bit confusing; the lot is actually across the street, as the parking closest to the field is reserved for residents of the housing directly next to Cole Field. You can get to the field from I-20 in about 15 minutes, and you drive through a lot of campus leading to a pretty drive on the way in and out of the field. Hotel options are limited, but it's not too far of a drive from Atlanta, and the number of hotels grow the closer you get to Atlanta.
Final Thoughts
Overall, while the history of Cole Field is cool, it's definitely showing its age. With so many of the facilities at West Georgia being really modern, with the football field especially looking like a D1 stadium even when they were D2, the baseball field just feels like it's lagging behind. However, if you want true, pure baseball with no flashy lights or games whatsoever, Cole Field is the place to be.
