History
Nationals Park opened in 2008 as the home of the Washington Nationals, marking the return of Major League Baseball to Washington, D.C., after the departure of the Washington Senators. Built along the Anacostia River in the city’s Navy Yard neighborhood, the ballpark was part of a movement by the city to bring attention to the area.
Atmosphere
As the Nationals have struggled in recent years, the atmosphere at the stadium is clearly in a bit of a slump. However, the President's Race is a must-see at Nats Park. Outside the stadium, there's many bars that fans like to hang out at before and after the game. I recommend a stop in at The Bullpen either before or after the game (or both!) for some affordable food and drinks.
Concessions
There are over 40 DMV-area vendors with spots at Nationals Park. Tuesday games see discounted prices of ballpark favorites, and pre-game there's specials on cans of beer and seltzer.
Access
Like most places in DC, I wouldn't recommend driving to this park. WMATA, the subway system in DC, has a stop just outside the stadium - just take the Green Line to the Navy Yard-Ballpark Station. If you're staying at a hotel along the Orange, Blue, or Silver line, you can take WMATA to the Capitol South station and walk about 15 minutes.
